Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has approved and signed into law a ₦695 billion supplementary budget passed by the State House of Assembly.
The Assembly passed the bill on Tuesday after adopting the report from the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong.
Presenting the report, Committee Chairman Hon. Itorobong Etim explained that the supplementary budget would be funded through multiple revenue streams, including statutory allocations, internally generated revenue, derivation funds, 13% derivation arrears, signature bonuses, exchange gains, and value-added tax (VAT).
The budget consists of ₦125.66 billion for recurrent expenditure and ₦569.33 billion for capital projects, raising the total 2025 budget to ₦1.65 trillion.
The revised figure includes ₦425.66 billion for recurrent services and ₦1.22 trillion for capital expenditure.
The original ₦955 billion budget was passed in December 2024.
According to a statement from the Government House Press Unit, Governor Eno signed the bill during the October edition of the State’s Project Delivery Meeting held at Government House, Uyo.
After signing, Governor Eno thanked the Speaker and lawmakers for the speedy passage of the budget and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and service delivery.
He said, “Let me assure the people of Akwa Ibom State that we will continue to perform our duties with integrity and commitment. The signing of this supplementary budget energises us to deliver fully on government projects and programmes.”
To fast-track development, the Governor released ₦60 billion to contractors with verified Interim Payment Certificates and directed Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and Delivery Advisors to maintain strict adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
The October Project Delivery Meeting featured updates on major projects across key sectors, such as the Tree Crop Revolution, State Electricity Market, Tourism Destination Marketing, Arise Resort, Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort renovation, Oron Maritime and Jetty Project, CNG City Bus Project, Ikot Ekpene International Market, and healthcare facilities, including Ibom International Hospital and Mother and Child Hospital.
Speaker Udeme Otong praised the Governor for his inclusive and transparent governance style, describing the project delivery sessions as an effective oversight tool.
“We have never experienced this kind of progress review in our state. It provides us with a clear understanding of activities across sectors,” the Speaker said, while commending the renovation of the Assembly Complex and pledging continued cooperation between the legislature and the executive.
