Renowned Nigerian evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has passed away.
His family confirmed the news in a statement on Monday, saying he died on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.
Describing his death as a “glorious transition,” the family said it marked his passage “from a life of devoted service to eternal rest.”
Rev. Ukpai, often regarded as a spiritual general and a pioneer of faith in Nigeria, spent more than six decades spreading the gospel through evangelism, teaching, and prophetic ministry.
His work, marked by crusades, mentorship, and a deep commitment to the Christian faith, touched millions of lives in Nigeria and beyond, influencing generations of believers and spiritual leaders.
“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity.
“His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come,” his family said.
Throughout his decades-long ministry, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai was renowned for his passionate evangelistic crusades, transformative teachings, and unwavering dedication to raising both clergy and lay leaders in faith.
Beyond his spiritual mission, Ukpai was celebrated as a devoted husband, loving father, and mentor to many who looked up to him as a beacon of faith and wisdom.
In a statement, the family expressed deep gratitude for his life and ministry, noting that while they grieve his passing, they rejoice that he has “finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.”
They assured the public that details of his burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
Ukpai’s over sixty years of ministry leave behind a remarkable legacy of faith and service — from church planting and educational initiatives to humanitarian projects that continue to transform lives across the world.
His family described his life as a reflection of the Scripture that says, “to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).
