Iran Condemns Trump’s Peace Offer

Iran has denounced US President Donald Trump’s recent call for peace as “inconsistent” with Washington’s actions, accusing the United States of hypocrisy following deadly strikes on Iranian soil earlier this year.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Tehran’s foreign ministry said, “The desire for peace and dialogue expressed by the US president is at odds with the hostile and criminal behaviour of the United States towards the Iranian people.”

The criticism comes in response to Trump’s remarks on Monday at the Israeli Knesset, where he said he wanted a peace deal with Iran, claiming “the ball was in Tehran’s court.”

Iran’s statement referenced the June attacks on its nuclear sites, when Israel carried out a large-scale bombing campaign targeting nuclear and military facilities, as well as residential areas, leaving more than 1,000 people dead. The United States also launched strikes on key nuclear facilities during the 12-day conflict, which brought high-level negotiations between Tehran and Washington to an abrupt halt.

Tehran retaliated with missile and drone attacks that killed dozens in Israel, before a ceasefire took effect on 24 June.

Iranian officials rejected Trump’s peace appeal, calling it illogical in light of the recent violence. “How can one attack the residential areas and nuclear facilities of a country in the midst of political negotiations, kill more than 1,000 people including innocent women and children, and then demand peace and friendship?” the ministry asked in its statement.

During his Knesset speech, Trump argued that “nothing would do more good for the region” than for Iran’s leaders to “renounce terrorists, stop threatening their neighbours, quit funding militant proxies, and finally recognise Israel’s right to exist.”

Tehran responded sharply, labelling his remarks “irresponsible and shameful” and accusing Washington of hypocrisy. “The United States… has no moral authority to accuse others,” the foreign ministry declared, branding the US “a leading producer of terrorism and a supporter of the terrorist and genocidal Zionist regime.”
