A well-known South African radio and club DJ, Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot dead in central Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Stock, 40, was attacked in broad daylight outside Zambesi House near the Carlton Centre, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has said. He was shot by one of three suspects, who fled the scene on foot. No arrests have been made, and the motive for the killing remains unclear.
According to police, Stock had spent several hours at the building supervising the installation of security systems. South Africa’s state broadcaster, SABC, reported that the building had allegedly been occupied by unknown individuals.
Johannesburg police chief Fred Kekana said CCTV footage shows a man with dreadlocks, wearing what appeared to be a security uniform, opening fire on Stock and that he attempted to flee but collapsed in the street after being shot.

Police recovered an unused firearm from Stock and confirmed that nothing was stolen during the attack. Cartridges and other evidence were collected at the scene.
“We know they walked a long distance after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to determine their whereabouts,” Kekana told reporters.
Police have appealed to the public for information that could assist the investigation.
Meanwhile, His sister, Nicole Stock, has pleaded with the public to stop sharing videos or images of the deceased’s remains, saying this is an incredibly difficult time, particularly for Warras’s children.
“People who are tweeting or posting videos, please, please, I am pleading with all of you to remove them. He’s got three beautiful boys. If you can take that off, we don’t want that.”
Stock was a well-known figure in South Africa’s music and nightlife scenes, having been born in Durban in 1985.
