Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has been crowned Man of the Match after a composed, influential display in Nigeria’s 3-2 win over Tunisia at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday.

Punch reports that Lookman described the award as “a symbol of Africa’s story and the hard work behind every performance.”

“Winning this feels special because it represents more than one player.

“It shows what African football stands for: unity, pride and excellence on a global stage,” he said.

The Super Eagles winger hinted that the trophy motivates players to inspire others, saying it “pushes you to give everything, knowing you are part of something bigger than yourself.”

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled a new Man of the Match trophy at the TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025, designed to celebrate Africa’s unity, diversity, and evolving football identity.

The redesigned award, first introduced during the tournament’s opening match on December 21, reflects CAF and TotalEnergies’ aim to align individual accolades with the continent’s shared values, culture, and growing global football presence.

The trophy features 24 radiant beams representing each participating nation, symbolising their unique identities while showcasing the collective strength of African football.

Its blended materials highlight diversity, and the converging beams emphasise football’s power to unite cultures and people across Africa.

At the centre sits the Damask rose, a tribute to host nation Morocco, reflecting its heritage and the historic moments of AFCON 2025.

The award has already been won by Morocco’s Brahim Díaz and Nigeria’s Semi Ajayi, recognising standout performances in the tournament.
