He explained that by the time firefighters arrived, the power house and the three vehicles were already in flames. Still, the crew swiftly contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to the main filling station and nearby buildings.

“The fire incident was reported at exactly 17:21 hrs on Friday, January 9, at Mr Yusuff’s Oloyo Filling Station, Kara Area, Kishi, in the Irepo Local Government Area of the state.

“Immediately the address was received, a crew of firefighters led by Assistant Fire Superintendent Akande E. O. promptly responded and was deployed to the scene of the incident.”

Akinwande said no casualties were recorded, although property worth millions of naira was destroyed.

He noted that preliminary findings indicated the fire was triggered by an explosion in the power house, which ignited nearby combustible materials.

He urged filling station operators across the state to prioritise fire safety by strictly adhering to safety guidelines.

The fire service boss also stressed the importance of having functional fire extinguishers in commercial premises and homes to help contain outbreaks at their early stages.

The affected vehicles were identified as a Volvo truck with registration number AGG Lagos 731 GB, a Golf 3 with registration number KUT 403 AP, and an empty DAF truck with registration number GB0 14 AB.

Residents were advised to promptly report fire incidents through the agency’s emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or the toll-free line 615.
