Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 6 Brigade, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have foiled a kidnapping attempt along the Wukari-Ikyior Road in Taraba State, rescuing two victims.
The Army said the operation was carried out on January 16, 2026, after troops received a distress alert that armed men had mounted a roadblock and were attacking civilians along the route.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Umar Muhammad, soldiers stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari were immediately deployed to the scene.
The statement said the suspects escaped into nearby bushes upon sighting the troops, abandoning their captives and fleeing on their motorcycle.

“Acting on a distress call that criminals had blocked the road and were attacking civilians, troops deployed at FOB Wukari responded swiftly and decisively to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the suspects fled into the surrounding bush on sighting the troops, abandoning their victims and escaping with their motorcycle.”
The rescued victims were identified as Terso Kerso, 48, and Udongu Terbo, 42, both residents of Ikyior community in Wukari Local Government Area.
The army stated that the men were unconscious when they were rescued and were promptly taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari, for emergency medical treatment.
Following the incident, troops have increased patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent further criminal activity and reassure residents and road users.
