The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced a 50-day Continuous Voter Registration exercise across all 329 wards of Akwa Ibom State.
The ward-level registration began on Monday and is designed to bring voter registration closer to the grassroots.
INEC’s Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, Bukola Ojeme, urged eligible citizens to take advantage of the initiative.

Eligible voters can now register at their respective INEC Ward Collation Centres, with two wards in each local government area serviced daily.
“From Monday, February 2, we will serve the public at the ward level for 50 days,” Ojeme explained.
During the exercise, only the state headquarters registration centre will remain fully operational, while the 31 local government area offices will temporarily suspend registration activities to focus on ward-level operations.
INEC plans to rotate its Voter Enrolment Devices (IVEDs) among the wards to ensure full coverage. “No ward will be left out of the exercise. The IVEDs will be rotated across the wards,” Ojeme said.
He stressed that only approved ward collation centres will be used for registration, warning against the use of unauthorised locations. “The commission will not tolerate taking the IVED to unauthorised centres,” he hinted.
To maintain transparency, INEC has approved a timetable for the rotation of enrolment devices, directing Electoral Officers to publicise it widely so citizens can monitor and report any violations.
Ojeme encouraged all eligible citizens, particularly those in rural areas, to seize the opportunity to register during this 50-day exercise.
