Starting February 25, 2026, the United Kingdom will fully enforce its Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) mandate for visa-exempt visitors.
The Home Office warned that travellers from approximately 85 countries—including the U.S., Canada, and France—who arrive at borders without this digital permit will be denied boarding on flights, trains, or ferries.
The ETA costs £16, is valid for two years, and must be obtained via the official GOV.UK app or website.

While many approvals take minutes, authorities recommend applying at least three days in advance.
Notably, the requirement does not apply to British or Irish citizens, those with existing UK visas (such as Nigerians), or residents with an eVisa.
