Arsenal launched their Premier League title defence with a dominant 3-0 victory over promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday.

Mikel Arteta’s squad displayed complete control from the opening whistle, signalling their clear intent to retain the league crown.

Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the 15th minute, converting Riccardo Calafiori’s cross with a precise low strike after Coventry turned over possession.

The champions doubled their advantage eight minutes later when Bukayo Saka capitalised on a rebound, tapping the ball home after goalkeeper Carl Rushworth parried a cross from new arrival Christos Tzolis.

Martin Odegaard sealed the convincing win early in the second half, scuffing a close-range effort past Rushworth after a swift combination between Saka and Ben White.

Frank Lampard’s Coventry side, making their first top-flight appearance since 2001, struggled to generate offence against Arsenal’s relentless pressing.

Arteta’s team now turns its attention to an August 31 fixture against Aston Villa after a 10-day layoff.
