The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) elections, Zadna Dantani, has said that his withdrawal from the race was influenced by the “intervention” of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
His withdrawal from the election comes less than 24 hours after the PDP chairmanship candidate for Bwari Area Council, Julius Adamu, stepped down from the race in favour of the APC candidate, Joshua Ishaku Musa.
Dantani had earlier released a statement about his withdrawal from the race. In the statement, he noted that he decided to step down from the race after consulting with his family and other relevant stakeholders.
He also announced his withdrawal in a video shared on social media. In the video, Dantani said he withdrew from the AMAC race after the FCT Minister’s intervention.

“My name is Zadna Dantani, the chairmanship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Abuja Municipal Area Council for the FCT Area Council election on the 21st of February, 2026. And by the grace of God, I am just as I’ve said; I am the candidate of the upcoming election in the People’s Democratic Party, but I want to sincerely appreciate everyone who supported us,” Dantani said in the video.
“And by the grace of God, we are doing it not because of our personal interests, and I’m standing to tell my people in Abuja Municipal Area Council that as a candidate who was standing for this election, I have today agreed, based on the intervention of the Honourable Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, as a man, as a leader in the party, and a leader in FCT.”
Dantani also urged his supporters to back Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, the APC candidate in the forthcoming election. He said supporting his former opponent was equivalent to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
