The All Progressives Congress (APC) won five of the six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during weekend local elections, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured a win in Gwagwalada, according to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

The APC secured victories in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abaji, Bwari, Kwali, and Kuje, while the PDP candidate, Mohammed Kasim, won in Gwagwalada.

In Gwagwalada, Kasim was declared the winner after polling 22,165 votes, defeating APC’s Yahaya Shehu, who received 17,788 votes.

Announcing the result, Returning Officer Philip Akpen said, “I am the returning officer for the 2026 FCT Area Council, Gwagwalada chairmanship election held on February 21, 2026. That Mohammed Kasim of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

In Bwari, APC’s Joshua Ishaku won with 18,466 votes. Returning Officer Mohammed Nurudeen stated, “I am the returning officer for the 2026 FCT Area Council, Bwari chairmanship election held on Feb. 21, 2026. That Joshua Ishaku, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

In AMAC, Christopher Maikalangu of the APC was re-elected with 40,295 votes. Collation Officer Andrew Abue said, “That Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

In Kuje, INEC declared APC’s Danjuma Samuel Shekolo the winner with 17,269 votes, while PDP’s Danlami Zakoyi received 15,824 votes.

Other parties recorded the following: ADC 7,016; APGA 4,305; AA 5; APM 58; NNPP 175; SDP 28; ADP 84; A Party 24; ZLP 6.

The APC also won in Abaji and Kwali, with candidates Umar Abdullahi Abubakar and Nuhu Daniel securing the highest number of votes in their respective councils, defeating PDP and other party opponents.

 Daniel in Kwali polled 17,032 votes, defeating the PDP candidate who scored 8,575, while Abubakar in Abaji received 15,536 votes compared with the PDP’s 4,547.

Speaking on the overall FCT results, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda said, “The Abuja election, in particular, is a powerful statement by Nigerians from all walks of life that they stand firmly with President Tinubu and his bold reform agenda.”

“The message from the people is clear: they want results, accountability, and continued reforms in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. The APC will not disappoint,” Yilwatda added.

The APC also reported victories for four State House of Assembly candidates in Kano and Rivers States.
