Residents of Lugbe in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently repair the deteriorating roads in the area.

The convener of the ‘Fix Lugbe Roads Campaign’, Michael Nwaohiri, made the appeal in an open letter addressed to Tinubu on Wednesday.

According to Nwaohiri, major key access roads within the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) in Lugbe have deteriorated into craters, dangerous potholes, and failed pavements, which put road users at risk of fatal accidents.

Nwaohiri also stated that the deplorable state of the road is making road users spend longer times on the road, causing damage to vehicles and delaying emergency responses.

”Abuja is the capital of our nation. Lugbe deserves infrastructure that reflects that status. We are not asking for temporary patchwork, we are asking for durable, properly engineered concrete roads that can serve residents for decades,” said Nwaohiri.

Residents of Lugbe have decried the deplorable state of roads as far back as 2018. Five years later, the residents’ demands remain the same.

In 2025, a commercial driver, Friday Moses, told Daily Trust that, despite paying their annual dues, residents still suffer from poor roads and government neglect.

“Everywhere in Lugbe, there’s no road you can say was fixed by the FHA. We pay our dues every year, yet we don’t see how the money is used. The bad roads delay us, cause traffic, and even lead to accidents. Sometimes, people fall off bikes because of potholes,” said Moses.

Another resident, Ifeanyi Victor Kachukwu, accused politicians of making road repair promises during election cycles and failing to deliver on them once in power.

“We have been abandoned for too long. The road is terrible. Bikes fall and cars crash. It is now part of our daily life,” Kachukwu lamented.

News Central reports that some sections of the roads in Lugbe have been repaired, but some remain deplorable.

As the roads in the area continue to deteriorate and cause flooding during peak rainy seasons, residents remain optimistic that their roads will see better days.
