Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, have endorsed ongoing constitutional reforms, particularly proposals for state police and the devolution of powers, describing them as vital to strengthening Nigeria’s security and federal system.
The two leaders spoke on Tuesday during the 2026 National Assembly Open Week in Abuja, where they also advocated greater transparency, accountability and citizen participation in governance.

Gbajabiamila said the annual event should provide Nigerians with a meaningful opportunity to engage lawmakers, monitor legislative activities and understand how laws, budgets and oversight functions contribute to national development.
He urged the National Assembly to involve young people, women, persons with disabilities, civil society groups and the private sector more actively in the legislative process.
The former Speaker also stressed the importance of constructive cooperation between the executive and legislature, saying both arms of government share the responsibility of improving citizens’ lives while respecting constitutional boundaries.
Speaking on behalf of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures, Guwor described insecurity as Nigeria’s greatest challenge and said constitutional reforms could significantly improve governance and national security.
He commended President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for advancing proposals on state policing and devolution of powers, expressing confidence that the reforms would strengthen federalism, improve intergovernmental coordination and bring governance closer to the people.
