President Donald Trump characterised the idea of deploying U.S. ground forces into Iran as a “waste of time,” asserting that the Iranian military has already suffered catastrophic losses.
In a telephone interview with NBC News, Trump dismissed warnings from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi regarding a potential invasion, claiming that Iran has already lost its navy and nearly all of its strategic assets.
He further labelled Araghchi’s defiant stance as a “wasted comment” given the current state of the conflict.
Despite rejecting a ground invasion at this stage, Trump signalled a desire for a swift and total overhaul of Iran’s leadership.

He emphasised a preference for “cleaning out” the existing regime infrastructure quickly rather than engaging in a decade-long rebuilding process.
While the president indicated he has potential candidates in mind to lead a new government, he declined to provide specific names.
These comments come as the conflict enters a “new phase” marked by heavy Israeli and U.S. strikes against regime targets in Tehran.
Trump previously stated his intention to be directly involved in selecting Iran’s next leader following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed during the opening strikes of the war.
