The Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, has approved an increase in the monthly allowance of ward heads (Maiunguwa) from N3,000 to N10,000.

The announcement followed a State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday at the Government House in Dutse.

The Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Nura Kazaure, said ward heads play key roles at the grassroots, providing leadership and helping implement government programmes within communities.

“The increase in the monthly allowance of ward heads from the initial N3,000 to N10,000 highlights the humane gesture that characterises the empathy and sympathy of His Excellency Mallam Umar A. Namadi, FCA-led administration,” Kazaure told journalists.

Kazaure added that the adjustment takes into account the responsibilities of the traditional leaders and current economic realities.

“The all-inclusive approach ensures that no one is left behind on the journey towards greater Jigawa,” he stated.

The council also announced appointments for the institution’s principal officers: Prof. Mahmud Sani as Vice-Chancellor, Muhammad Jahun as Registrar, Dr. Muhammadu Yusuf as Librarian, and Sani Sulaiman as Bursar.

The appointments are effective immediately for a five-year term.

Meanwhile, the council approved members of the central planning committee for the 2026 Jigawa State Investment Summit. Deputy Governor Aminu Usman will serve as Chairman, Dr. Muhammad Sagagi as Vice Chairman, and the Director-General of InvestJigawa as Secretary.
