Madrid Defeat Man City to Reach UCL Quarterfinal

Spanish giants Real Madrid have once again eliminated Manchester City from the Champions League, securing a 5-1 aggregate victory after a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium.

For the fourth time in five seasons, the Spanish giants sent Pep Guardiola’s men packing to continue their dominance in European football.

City had the impossible task of overturning a 3-0 first-leg deficit against the 15-time European champions, but things took a turn for the worse early in the match when captain Bernardo Silva was shown a red card for handling the ball on his own line. The moment sealed the tie for Real Madrid, as Vinicius Junior calmly converted the penalty, leaving City with no way back.

Though City found some hope when Erling Haaland equalised before the break, Vinicius was again the match-winner, scoring a crucial goal in stoppage time after a VAR review confirmed his earlier penalty was valid.

Haaland’s 43 goals this season had no effect on his side’s elimination, as Madrid’s defence, led by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, stood firm when needed.

City’s recent struggles have intensified, with the team winless in their last three games. Their quest for silverware now faces a tough road, with an upcoming League Cup final against Arsenal and a nine-point gap in the Premier League title race.

Despite Madrid’s inconsistent La Liga form, their proven ability to perform when it matters most in the Champions League was on full display.

Real Madrid’s resilience was matched by their hunger, and with players like Vinicius and the returning Kylian Mbappe, they remain a formidable force in the knockout stages.
