The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has resigned from office.
His spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, confirmed the development on Friday, explaining that the resignation had been officially submitted.
He stated that Gwarzo had stepped down from his position but did not provide details on what informed the decision.
“Yes, it is true. The deputy governor has resigned from his position,” he said.
Although no official explanation has been provided, the resignation follows recent tensions between the deputy governor and the Kano State House of Assembly.
Lawmakers had recently accused Gwarzo of misconduct and raised concerns about his conduct in office.
The Assembly had also begun processes that were widely interpreted as steps toward possible disciplinary action, heightening political tension within the state’s executive arm.

The development also comes as political realignments in Kano continue following Governor Abba Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that has reshaped the state’s political structure.
Since the defection, the governor has carried out several changes in his administration, including the removal of the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, as part of efforts to restructure the civil service.
He also dismissed the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi, citing the need to improve governance efficiency.
Political observers say the series of changes reflects a broader effort by the administration to consolidate its position under the new political alignment and streamline government operations.
While the allegations against Gwarzo had not been fully detailed publicly, sources within the Assembly indicated that the matter was still under legislative consideration before his resignation.
His resignation is expected to trigger constitutional procedures for appointing a new deputy governor, subject to approval by the Kano State House of Assembly.
