Following the incident, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, in a statement on Sunday, said the curfew would take effect from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026.

According to the statement, the decision was taken in response to a “tragic security incident” in the Anguwan Rukuba area which resulted in deaths and injuries.

“Following the tragic security incident that occurred at Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, today, Sunday, 29th March 2026, resulting in the loss of lives, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” the statement said.

“The Plateau State Government, in conjunction with security agencies, wishes to inform the general public of the imposition of a 48 hour curfew within Jos North Local government Area with immediate effect, commencing from 12 midnight of 29th March to 1st April, 2026.”

Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric and unprovoked,” and assured residents that security agencies were working to apprehend those responsible.

The latest incident comes weeks after at least 20 security operatives and vigilantes were reportedly killed when heavily armed bandits ambushed a joint patrol team in Wanka and surrounding communities in the Garga area of Kanam Local Government Area.

The Kanam Development Association (KADA), in a statement signed by its Secretary, ND Shehu Kanam, and Chairman, Garba G. Aliyu, said the victims included 12 security personnel, among them two senior military officers, and eight vigilante members assisting security forces.

According to the association, the patrol team was travelling in two vehicles on routine operations across the communities of Garga, Kyaram and Gyambau when they were ambushed by hundreds of armed bandits while heading to Wanka at about 2 p.m. on Friday.

KADA described the killings as “deeply painful and unacceptable,” noting that the victims died while defending rural communities that have faced repeated attacks.

The group also alleged that the attackers later stormed Kyaram community, looted properties worth millions of naira and rustled a large number of cattle belonging to residents.

It warned that communities around Garga, Kyaram and Gyambau, located along the borders of Plateau, Taraba and Bauchi states, have endured persistent attacks, kidnappings and cattle rustling for the past three to four years.
