The head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Election Observation Mission, Nana Akuffo-Addo, held meetings with Beninese officials responsible for conducting Benin’s 2026 presidential election, scheduled for Sunday.
The West African bloc, in a post shared on X on Friday, said the meeting was necessary for the election observation mission to better understand the country’s electoral process.
Akuffo-Addo, Commissioner Abdel Fatau Musah, responsible for political affairs at ECOWAS, and H.E. Amadou Diongue, ECOWAS resident representative in Benin, met with the President of the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA), Saka Lafia, on Thursday.

“At the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA), discussions with President Saka LAFIA enabled the ECOWAS EOM to gain a better understanding of the ongoing process, the status of the deployment of electoral materials, the management of polling stations and offices, and the measures taken to address security issues surrounding the operations,” the post read.
Akuffo-Addo also met Constitutional Court President Dorothé SOSSA, who verifies Benin’s electoral processes and announces the final results of the elections.
He also had discussions with President Edouard Loko, and the advisers of the High Authority for Audiovisual and Communication (HAAC) enabled the ECOWAS EOM delegation to gain a better understanding of the institution’s efforts to monitor and regulate the information disseminated by the media regarding the election campaign and voting operations.
