President Bola Tinubu has declared that the All Progressives Congress presidential primary is proceeding according to plan, expressing satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the exercise nationwide.
Tinubu on Saturday described the APC presidential primary as a “demonstration of internal democracy.”
“This is a demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going very well according to plan,” Tinubu told reporters after voting at Ward L2 in the upscale Ikoyi neighbourhood alongside First Lady Oluremi.
“This is politics, grassroots politics where every member of the party has a right to participate and be involved….And it’s peaceful and well-organised.”

Asked whether he was satisfied with the process, the president responded: “So today, I am very satisfied. Very, very satisfied that these governors; they’ve done well in their various states.”
“From the ward congresses to local government congresses, the delegate accreditation, validation, members’ register and certification of the electoral process — it has been all very well. At least you will score democracy at a high level.”
When asked about the massive support displayed by party members, Tinubu said, “I’m just excited. They challenge me more.”
In northern Kebbi State, Governor Nasir Idris joined a voice vote at his polling unit alongside former minister Atiku Bagudu, recording 5,652 votes in favour of Tinubu. A second unit in the state capital registered 2,825 votes.

In Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo vowed to deliver 2.5 million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 general election, citing the enthusiasm witnessed during Saturday’s primary.
“Today’s primary was peaceful, and you could see the happiness on the faces of our people as they came out in large numbers to vote for Mr. President,” Okpebholo said.
“They voted overwhelmingly for him, and this is exactly what is happening across Edo State. It is a clear pointer to what the 2027 general election will look like in the state.”
“We are ready for the 2027 general election, and we are ready to deliver Edo State to President Tinubu. Two point five million votes are possible.”

In his home ward in Esan Central Local Government Area, Tinubu secured 360 votes, according to the returning officer.
In Katsina State, Governor Dikko Radda expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure a second term after witnessing what he called overwhelming support during the primary.
“Today is the final day of the APC primary election where members are endorsing the president as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election,” Radda said after casting his vote.
“APC is a party that gives equal opportunity and democratic rights to its members to elect their leaders. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not the only aspirant in the race; Stanley Osifo also purchased the nomination form and contested.”
