The Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has adopted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its sole presidential candidate ahead of the party’s primaries scheduled for Monday.
The announcement was made on Sunday at the party secretariat in Sokoto by Muktari Magori, former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. Magori said the decision followed wide consultations among party leaders and stakeholders across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The essence of this press conference is to officially announce the consensus reached… to adopt His Excellency, former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar… as the party’s sole presidential candidate,” he said.
He added that party members believe Atiku has the experience and national reach to lead the country and strengthen the ADC’s chances in 2027.
“After extensive consultations, we are convinced that Atiku Abubakar possesses the experience, national reach, and leadership qualities needed to provide direction for the country and lead the ADC to victory in 2027,” Magori stated.
According to Magori, the decision shows unity among party stakeholders in Sokoto State and confidence in Atiku’s leadership. The briefing was attended by party officials, candidates, and delegates from all 23 local government areas of the state.
