The South African government has held talks on rising tensions linked to illegal migration, as protests against undocumented foreign nationals continue in parts of the country.
The ministers held the meeting on Monday. Accusations of illegal migrants taking jobs from citizens prompted the meeting.
South Africa’s ministers of justice, defence and crime met to discuss plans to tackle xenophobia, racism and related violence.

The government said it will engage political parties and protest groups involved in the anti-immigration demonstrations.
Last week, hundreds of foreign nationals from countries including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Somalia reportedly sought protection in Durban after locals allegedly warned them to leave before June 30.
New protests were also reported on Monday in Katlehong, near Johannesburg, where residents demanded checks of documents held by foreign business operators. Another protest in Bloemfontein also targeted foreign nationals.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s government has urged African countries to address economic and governance problems, pushing citizens to migrate.
Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola said solving the issue remains “a shared responsibility.”
