Kenyan President William Ruto has conveyed his condolences to the families of students who lost their lives after a tragic dormitory fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil on Thursday morning.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, May 28, also left at least 74 students injured, who are currently receiving treatment in various health facilities.
In a statement and condolence messages shared by national leaders, Ruto expressed sympathy with affected families, noting that government attention was focused on supporting victims, treating the injured and assisting bereaved parents.

He added that a full investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the fire and prevent a recurrence of similar tragedies in schools.
While investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, reports from the scene suggest concerns from some parents over how the emergency was handled during the incident.
One parent alleged that a school matron did not adequately alert students in time, claiming that only one exit was opened during the incident and that there was no clear evacuation warning given.
Authorities have not confirmed these claims as investigations continue.
