The Delta State High Court sitting in Asaba has ordered the remand of a dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police, Usman Nuhu, and four other former police officers at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre over the alleged extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Oghenemene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State.

The defendants appeared before the court on Monday in connection with the shooting incident involving Ogidi, also known as OG Millan, which occurred on April 26, 2026. The case sparked widespread outrage after a video of the killing circulated on social media.

The officers are standing trial under Charge No. DTHC/ASB/CR/M/66/2026 before Justice Marshall Onome Umukoro.

At the hearing, the judge ordered that the accused be remanded for 15 working days, pending legal advice from the Delta State Attorney-General. The court also directed that all further proceedings involving the defendants be conducted virtually.

The case arose from the fatal shooting of Ogidi in Effurun, an incident that drew national condemnation and prompted the Nigeria Police Force to begin disciplinary action against the officers involved.

Following investigations, the Inspector-General of Police approved their dismissal and recommended criminal prosecution for breaches of operational procedures and firearm regulations.

The prosecution has continued to attract public attention, with rights groups, members of the public, and the victim’s family demanding justice and accountability.
