At least 12 people were injured in a shooting near a community festival in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday, with police saying no arrests had been made as investigations continued.
Deputy Police Chief Joseph Heffernan said preliminary investigations suggested at least two individuals exchanged gunfire and were likely targeting each other.
“Twelve people were struck with bullets… two of them critical,” Heffernan told reporters, adding that no suspects were in custody yet.
Police launched a search for those involved while officers interviewed witnesses and reviewed cellphone footage from the scene.
Investigators also appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could assist in identifying the shooters.

Police Lieutenant Dan Gerken said most of the victims were in their early twenties and described the scale of the shooting as one of the most severe incidents he had encountered.
“So, 12 people being shot, that’s the most — I’ve been to a lot of scenes, but this was way over the top,” Gerken said.
The Old West End Festival is an annual event featuring live music, block parties and home tours in one of Toledo’s historic districts. A significant police presence was already deployed at the festival when the shooting occurred.
The incident adds to a long list of gun violence cases in the United States, where firearms remain widely accessible, and thousands of people die from gun-related injuries each year.
