Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday following widespread youth-led protests over allegations of systemic irregularities in national examination processes.
Thousands of demonstrators, organised under the social media-driven Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), flooded the streets of New Delhi to demand a complete overhaul of the country’s public education testing system.
Pradhan submitted his resignation directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating on X that he felt deep pain over recent events and refused to let the situation become a matter of personal prestige.

Following the announcement, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke confirmed that the government agreed to all student demands during negotiations, prompting organisers to officially end their demonstrations at the central Jantar Mantar protest site.
The youth movement, which faced police tear gas and baton charges during earlier attempts to march on parliament, expanded beyond testing failures to address broader concerns regarding high youth unemployment and government authority.
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi backed the movement, calling Pradhan’s exit a major victory and urging the prime minister to apologise directly to the country’s youth and hold officers accountable for violence against student demonstrators.
