Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday that Beijing’s relationship with Pyongyang was “invincible” and reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with North Korea, according to North Korean state media, as he prepared for his first visit to the country in seven years.

Xi made the remarks in an article published on the front page of Rodong Sinmun, North Korea’s main newspaper.

In the article, he emphasised the long-standing diplomatic ties between the two countries and highlighted their continued importance despite changing global conditions.

“No matter how the times change or how the international situation evolves, the traditional friendship between China and North Korea will always remain invincible,” Xi wrote.

His statement underscored Beijing’s desire to maintain close strategic relations with Pyongyang at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions in the region.

The Chinese leader’s comments come ahead of a planned visit to North Korea, marking his first trip there in seven years. The visit is expected to further deepen political dialogue and reinforce bilateral cooperation between both countries.

China and North Korea have historically maintained close ties, with Beijing serving as Pyongyang’s most important economic and diplomatic partner. Xi’s latest remarks are widely seen as a signal of continued support for stability on the Korean Peninsula and a reaffirmation of the long-standing alliance between the two neighbouring states.
