South African TV presenter and rapper Molemo Maarohanye has been arrested over allegations of kidnapping and discharging a firearm during an incident involving a taxi driver in Edenvale, near Johannesburg.
Police say the incident occurred on Sunday at around 07:30 local time (05:30 GMT), shortly after the driver had dropped off a passenger. Authorities allege that Maarohanye confronted the driver in Edenvale, accusing him of having a relationship with his girlfriend.
According to a police statement, the entertainer allegedly forced the unnamed taxi driver into his vehicle and fired a gun in his direction during the confrontation. The victim reportedly managed to escape unharmed and drove directly to a nearby police station to report the incident.
Maarohanye has not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.

He is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for an initial hearing as investigations continue.
The arrest adds to a long history of legal challenges involving the media personality. In 2012, he was convicted of murder and attempted murder following a drag-racing incident that resulted in the deaths of four schoolchildren and injuries to two others. However, the Supreme Court of Appeal later overturned those convictions, replacing them with manslaughter findings in 2014.
More recently, in 2023, Maarohanye was arrested on charges including rape, attempted murder, and assault following allegations made by a former partner. Those charges were later withdrawn in 2024 after prosecutors concluded there were no reasonable prospects of a successful conviction.
Despite his legal history, Maarohanye remains a prominent public figure in South Africa, currently hosting the reality television programme Uyajola 9/9, which exposes infidelity in relationships.
Authorities say the latest allegations remain under investigation as the case proceeds through the courts.
