Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered an immediate scale-up of waste evacuation across the state following a recent build-up of refuse in several communities.
In a post on X on Thursday, the Governor said relevant agencies have been mobilised to intensify cleanup operations and restore environmental sanitation across affected areas.
“I have directed an immediate scale-up of waste evacuation across Lagos following the recent build-up of refuse in some parts of our state,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu noted that the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), and the Ministry of the Environment are currently working round the clock to address the situation.

He added that additional trucks and personnel have been deployed to clear accumulated waste across affected neighbourhoods, with residents already beginning to see improvements.
According to Sanwo-Olu, Lagos produces over 13,000 tons of waste daily, adding that managing the high volume of waste would require absolute determination.
He also appealed to residents to support government efforts by ensuring proper waste disposal and avoiding indiscriminate dumping.
“As we continue this cleanup, I ask for your partnership. Please bag your waste properly and avoid dumping refuse in drainage channels or on the roads,” he added.
“We are fully on top of this situation. Let us work together to keep Lagos clean and safe for everyone,” he said.
