Nigerian Army Announces Major Reshuffle

The Nigerian Army has approved a major redeployment of senior officers, introducing new appointments across operational commands, training institutions and Army Headquarters as part of efforts to strengthen national security and improve operational effectiveness.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the postings were approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to enhance the Army’s ability to tackle evolving security threats nationwide.

Among the key appointments, Major General WM Dangana was named General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, replacing Major General EF Oyinlola.

Major General EI Okoro was appointed GOC 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, succeeding Major General EE Emeka.

Major General JR Lar takes over as Commander of Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola was appointed Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri retained his position as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.

The reshuffle also saw Brigadier General IB Buhari appointed Commander of Headquarters 63 Brigade and Brigadier General K Rabiu posted as Commander of Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.

In line with the Army’s focus on technology-driven operations, Major General SA Emmanuel was appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command, a move the Army said reflects its growing emphasis on emerging domains of warfare.

Major General O Adegbe was also appointed Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters.

Within the training and education sector, Major General KE Chigbu was named Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, while Major General SD Makolo became Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School.

Major General SO Adejimi was appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, while Major General FS Etim assumed office as Chief of Training at the Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). Brigadier General U Ahmad was also appointed Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.

Elsewhere, Major General KO Ukandu was named Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, while Major General AI Allison was appointed Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.

The Army said the Chief of Army Staff urged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence placed in them through exemplary leadership, professionalism, innovation and dedication to the Army’s constitutional responsibility of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, protecting its territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.

According to the statement, the redeployments form part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing transformation drive to build a professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force capable of responding effectively to current and future security challenges.

“The COAS charged the newly appointed senior officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating exemplary leadership, professionalism, innovation and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian Army’s constitutional mandate of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, protecting its territorial integrity and supporting civil authority in maintaining peace and security across the nation.

“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its transformation drive and commitment to building a highly professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force capable of effectively addressing contemporary and future security challenges in pursuit of Nigeria’s national security objectives,” the statement added.
