President Bola Tinubu has announced the rescue of children and teachers abducted by Ansaru terrorists in Oyo State, saying no ransom was paid and no concession was made to secure their release.

In a statement on Friday, Tinubu said the victims were rescued alive and unharmed by security forces.

“Tonight, our nation has reason to give thanks. The children and teachers abducted by Ansaru terrorists in Oyo State have been rescued by our security forces, alive and unharmed. No ransom was paid. No concession was made,” the President wrote on his verified X handle.

Tinubu saluted the officers and operatives whose courage, discipline and professionalism made the rescue possible.

He also issued a stern warning to terrorists, vowing that the Nigerian state would pursue them relentlessly.

“To those who seek to spread fear through terror, know that the Nigerian state will pursue you relentlessly. We will protect our people, defend our communities, and never relent until peace and security prevail across our country,” Tinubu said.

The pupils and teachers were abducted on May 15 when armed terrorists attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota and two other schools in Ahoro-Esinle and Alawusa communities, killing two teachers.

They were rescued on Friday following a coordinated operation by security agencies in Orire Local Government Area, with the presidency confirming that eight kidnappers were arrested while several others were neutralised.

The abductors had demanded the release of detained Ansaru commanders Mahmud Usman, also known as Abu Bara’a, and Abubakar Abba, alias Isah Adam, alongside ransom payment and other conditions.

The rescue brings to an end a 56-day ordeal for the victims and their families.
