United States (US) President Donald Trump has mourned the death of Senator Lindsey Graham. In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump paid tribute to the late senator, calling him one of the “greatest people and senators he had ever known”.

“Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, is dead! He was always working and was a true American Patriot. Lindsey will be greatly missed!!! DETAILS AND ARRANGEMENTS TO FOLLOW. So sad! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” the US President wrote.

Graham died at the age of 71 on Saturday evening. His office said the family “appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period.”

Graham was one of Trump’s closest Republican allies in the US Senate. Throughout Trump’s presidency and subsequent political campaigns, he was among the President’s most vocal supporters, frequently defending his policies and serving as a key ally on issues ranging from judicial appointments to foreign policy.

Representing South Carolina in the Senate for more than two decades, Graham built a reputation as an influential voice on national security, defence and international affairs. Although he was a vocal critic of Trump during the 2016 Republican presidential primary, the two later forged a close political alliance that became one of the most enduring partnerships within the Republican Party.
