Iran has renewed calls for reparations for victims of the deadly Minab school attack, accusing the United States and Israel of failing to ensure accountability five months after the bombing and insisting that affected families are entitled to truth, justice and compensation.

In a post shared by Iran’s Permanent Mission in Geneva on X, Tehran cited findings by United Nations human rights experts, saying the attack represented a grave violation of international humanitarian law and that the lack of a transparent investigation had denied justice to victims.

“As UN Human Rights mandate holders aptly stated in a press release, ‘the attack on the Minab school is the most egregious example of a wider failure by the US and Israel (regimes) to ensure the protection of civilians during armed conflict, including women and children,'” the mission said.

The renewed demand follows the strike on a school in Minab, a city in Iran’s southern Hormozgan Province, during the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran in February.

At least 165 people, including children, died in the attack, prompting widespread condemnation from Tehran.

The United States and Israel have maintained that their military operations targeted strategic sites and have denied deliberately targeting civilians. Iran noted that the UN experts had warned that accountability had stalled.

“The mandate holders have also rightly reminded the international community that ‘Justice delayed is justice denied,'” the statement said.

Tehran argued that any meaningful accountability process must begin with an acknowledgement that civilian casualties cannot simply be dismissed as accidental.

“The first step toward genuine accountability is to acknowledge another fundamental conclusion reached by the mandate holders: ‘Characterising civilian deaths as a mistake does not diminish States’ obligations under international humanitarian law and international human rights law, nor does it preclude individual criminal responsibility where violations have occurred.'”

Iran concluded by demanding justice and compensation for those affected by the attack.

Earlier this year, a group of UN special rapporteurs and other independent human rights experts expressed concern over the bombing of the Minab school, describing it as one of the most serious incidents involving civilian harm during the conflict.

The experts called for prompt, independent and transparent investigations and stressed that states remain legally obligated to investigate alleged violations of international humanitarian law and provide effective remedies where unlawful harm is established.

Iran has consistently argued that the attack constitutes a breach of international law and has urged the international community to hold those responsible accountable through independent investigations and reparations for victims and their families.
