#OsunDecides: Adeleke Re-elected Governor of Osun State

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has been declared winner of the 2026 governorship election after securing victory in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.

The State Returning Officer for the election, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, announced the result at about 7:24 am on Sunday, returning Adeleke to office for another term.

Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who recorded 444,815 votes.

The election result showed a competitive contest between the two leading candidates, with Oyebamiji winning 11 local government areas while Adeleke secured majority support across 19 councils.

The governor won in areas including Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Osogbo and Ila Orangun local government areas.

Oyebamiji recorded victories in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun and other council areas.

Declaring the final figures, Professor Ogunwole said accredited voters stood at 1,010,684, while the total valid votes were 985,079. He added that 1,005,800 votes were cast, with 20,721 votes rejected.

After political party agents signed the result sheet, the Returning Officer formally declared Adeleke the winner.

“That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election and returned elected,” Ogunwole announced.

The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third.
