Prince Harry stepped down from the governing board of directors at African Parks following a governance review and persistent controversy surrounding ranger conduct.

The decision comes after the conservation charity acknowledged in May 2025 that its guards committed human rights abuses, including alleged rape and torture against the indigenous Baka community, at Odzala-Kokoua National Park in the Republic of Congo.

A spokesperson for the prince confirmed the departure, noting that Harry remains proud of his 10-year tenure and continues to support the organisation’s conservation mission.

African Parks clarified that the prince was not removed from the board, describing the transition as a mutual agreement during a routine governance refresh.

The announcement coincides with Harry’s planned return to the United Kingdom after relocating his family from California.
