Prince Harry and his wife Meghan are returning to the United Kingdom six years after resigning as working royals, according to British media late on Wednesday.

The youngest son of King Charles III and his spouse, Meghan, “plan to leave the United States by the end of the month to settle in a private, non-royal residence, which is said to be located outside London,” according to The Telegraph.

The couple’s two children, Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, were already enrolled in a British school for the start of the school year in early September, according to several UK news outlets, including the BBC.

The couple had reportedly already decided on a new home, but it would not be one of the numerous royal residences.

According to the Press Association, Charles was informed on Sunday that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex intended to move back to the United Kingdom.

The monarch “welcomes the opportunity to see more of the family in a personal capacity”, but there will be no change in their status and the couple would still not be working royals, PA said.

The news comes only weeks after Harry and Meghan visited the UK in early July with the children, during which they had a private meeting with Charles.

Harry and Meghan have lived in California since 2020, and the children had not seen their grandfather since 2022.

Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, left Britain for North America in 2020 because of a bitter feud with his family, which worsened when Harry published his tell-all memoir “Spare”.

He later stated that he wanted to make amends with his father, who was given a cancer diagnosis two years ago and has been undergoing treatment ever since.

The type of cancer has never been identified.

However, there were setbacks even in the lead-up to the July trip. Media outlets cited people close to Harry as saying the prince would stay at London’s Buckingham Palace, but the palace denied it.

The palace claimed that Harry had not given enough notice to accept the invitation to stay at the British sovereign’s official residence.

His mother, Princess Diana, died in a car accident in Paris in 1997 while attempting to avoid the paparazzi, and Harry has long blamed the media for her demise.
