Suspected bandits have killed a resident and abducted nine people, including his wife and two children, in Kaduna State.
The attack occurred in Babban Saura community, Chikun Local Government Area, in the early hours of Thursday. Residents said the attackers invaded three houses during the raid.
A community source told News Central correspondent that the assailants first attacked the home of an elderly man. They abducted two of his children before moving to another house. The attackers later stormed the residence of a man identified as Sikiru. They reportedly broke through the fence to enter his compound.
According to the source, Sikiru confronted the attackers after they entered his sitting room. He struggled with some of them before they shot him dead. The bandits then abducted his wife and two children.
The attackers also invaded a nearby house belonging to a woman identified as Maman Mubarak. They abducted Mubarak and her four children. However, soldiers and local vigilantes later rescued Mubarak. Her four children remained in captivity.

Usman Adamu, commander of the local vigilantes, confirmed the attack. He said nine people were initially abducted.
“We received a distress call that bandits had entered Babban Saura PW, and so we informed soldiers who joined us,” Adamu said.
He said the vigilantes and soldiers tracked the attackers to the Eastern Bypass area.
“We traced them to the Eastern Bypass area and succeeded in rescuing a woman, Maman Mubarak, whose four children were among those kidnapped.”
Adamu said security personnel tried to rescue the remaining victims. However, the attackers escaped with the other abductees. Another resident, Anas, said Sikiru called him after the attackers entered the community.
A News Central correspondent who visited the area saw sympathisers gathered at Sikiru’s residence. Residents also expressed concern over worsening insecurity in the community.
The attack came days after suspected bandits invaded nearby Kadaure community. A man was reportedly killed during that attack, while cattle were also rustled.
Meanwhile, Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson DSP Mansur Hassan could not be reached for comment.
