The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of Freedom Park on Lagos Island for one week to allow renovation, fumigation and other maintenance works.
The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture said the closure will begin on Monday, October 5, and run through Sunday, October 11, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, said the exercise was part of scheduled maintenance and upgrade works designed to improve the facility and enhance visitors’ experience while preserving the historic facility.

The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has announced that Freedom Park, Lagos Island, will be temporarily closed for renovation works from Monday, 5th to Sunday, 11th October, 2026.
A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, said the temporary closure is to allow for scheduled maintenance and upgrade works aimed at enhancing visitor experience and preserving the historic facility.
She revealed that the Park will be reopened to the public immediately after the renovation exercise.
The Permanent Secretary stressed that the Lagos State Government regrets any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause members of the public.

The ministry said the works would cover areas requiring repairs, upgrades and general improvements to the park’s facilities and environment.
In a separate notice to members and visitors, the management of Freedom Park said the rehabilitation programme would include facility upgrades, beautification and general maintenance, as well as improvements to areas and services intended to provide greater comfort and convenience.

The management added that the temporary closure was necessary to carry out comprehensive cleaning, fumigation and related maintenance activities.
“Freedom Park Lagos will be temporarily closed from Monday, 5th October to Sunday, 11th October 2026 to allow for comprehensive clean-up, fumigation and related maintenance works.”

It assured members of the public that normal activities would resume once the work was completed and the park reopened.
The ministry apologised for any inconvenience the closure might cause and appealed to members of the public for their understanding during the one-week exercise.
Freedom Park, located on Lagos Island, is a major recreational and cultural facility that hosts events and activities for residents and visitors.
