Zuma’s admission to a medical clinic in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday drew widespread media attention before official confirmation.

His political party, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), described the hospital stay as a routine medical checkup, assuring the public that the former leader remains healthy and in good spirits.
A former anti-apartheid figure, Zuma served as president from 2009 until corruption scandals forced his resignation in 2018.
He executed a major political comeback ahead of the 2024 national elections, leading the newly formed MKP to a strong third-place finish that significantly altered the country’s political landscape.
