Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his recent attacks on President Bola Tinubu, linking the opposition politician’s conduct to frustration over his long-running presidential ambition.
In a statement posted on X, Keyamo argued that Atiku remained deeply affected by Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election and claimed that the former vice president had struggled to accept the political outcome.
Keyamo described Atiku’s recent criticism of the Tinubu administration as more than routine opposition politics, alleging that it reflected anger and disappointment over his unsuccessful attempts to become Nigeria’s president. He also controversially referred to what he described as “agitated depression,” although no medical evidence was presented to support a diagnosis of Atiku’s mental health.

The minister recalled that Atiku served as Nigeria’s vice president between 1999 and 2007, while Tinubu was governor of Lagos State during the same period. According to Keyamo, both politicians later pursued presidential ambitions through different political alliances and strategies.
He argued that Tinubu eventually secured the presidency on his first appearance on the ballot as a presidential candidate, while Atiku has contested Nigeria’s presidency several times without success.
Keyamo further urged Atiku to accept political outcomes and suggested that those close to him should provide appropriate support. He cited Ecclesiastes 9:11 to argue that political success is influenced by circumstances beyond personal strength, experience or ambition.
