Kigali is the centre of Africa’s economic conversation this week as the 2026 Innovate Africa Conference opens today at the Kigali Convention Centre in Rwanda. The two-day event runs from October 12 to 13.
The conference brings together leaders, investors and innovators to examine how the continent can unlock large-scale growth. Its agenda centres on four sectors: creative industries, agriculture, technology and energy.
The mix of sectors reflects a growing view that Africa’s next phase of expansion will not rest on a single industry. Creative enterprises, farming, digital innovation and energy each offer room to scale, and the conference aims to show how they can reinforce one another. Having investors in the same room as the people building these businesses should also move discussions from ideas toward capital and partnerships.

The choice of Kigali adds weight to the gathering. The Kigali Convention Centre is one of East Africa’s best-known venues for international meetings, and it gives delegates from across the continent and beyond a shared space to exchange ideas and make deals.
For policymakers, the conference is a chance to hear directly from the founders and financiers shaping the sectors they regulate. For entrepreneurs, it is a chance to reach investors who are actively looking for opportunities that can grow across borders.
The focus on large-scale growth runs through the programme. Africa already has no shortage of ideas and talent. The question for the conference is how to turn them into businesses and industries with lasting reach.
