Girl Reportedly Wakes Up Inside Coffin at Funeral

A 15-year-old girl in Guatemala has reportedly regained consciousness inside a coffin during her wake after her family believed she had died, leaving mourners stunned.

The teenager, identified as Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, reportedly collapsed while her father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, an evangelical pastor, was driving her to a medical centre.

According to sources, her father stopped the vehicle and checked her pulse and breathing but believed she was dead after he could not detect a pulse or observe signs of breathing.

“I saw that she was no longer breathing and I couldn’t feel her pulse on her wrists. It was a very difficult situation for me. She did not go to hospital,” he told local media, according to the publication.

The family reportedly arranged a funeral without a doctor confirming her death or an official death certificate being issued.

About eight hours after she collapsed, mourners gathered at the family home in the rural village of El Jocote for the wake.

However, her mother, Lesvia Ríos, reportedly noticed movement as she leaned over the coffin to mourn her daughter.

“I kept saying she was alive; she wasn’t dead,” Ríos told local media.

“When I was crying on top of her casket, we opened the window and she was moving, she was waking up and suddenly she sat up.”

Footage of the incident reportedly shows the teenager, wearing a pink T-shirt, moving inside the coffin before sitting upright as stunned mourners gathered around her.

Family members helped her out of the coffin and offered her water, while people at the scene reportedly shouted “hallelujah” in celebration.

Recounting the events before she collapsed, Yuleidy said she experienced severe chest pain before losing consciousness.

“My heart started hurting really badly, it felt heavy and then I blacked out, like I fainted,” she said.

The teenager is reportedly conscious and recovering at home. She also expressed gratitude to God for surviving the ordeal.

The video has since circulated widely on social media, with some users describing the incident as a miracle, while others expressed concern about the distressing experience she may have endured.

The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the cause of her collapse and why her death was presumed without medical confirmation, were not immediately clear.
