The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary traffic diversion on Independence Bridge, Lagos Island, as the Federal Ministry of Works begins urgent asphalt repairs.
The repairs will begin at night on Friday, October 16, 2026, and continue through Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi said the work would affect both inbound and outbound lanes. He added that traffic management measures would be introduced to reduce disruption to motorists.

To manage traffic around the affected sections, officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to direct vehicles and minimise delays.
The government urged motorists to remain patient, comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic officials during the exercise.
Road users travelling through Lagos Island and neighbouring areas have also been advised to allow extra time for their journeys and follow instructions from traffic management personnel until the repairs are completed.
