Nigeria’s national grid has returned to normal operation after multiple trippings on the 330kV transmission network, the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) announced on Monday, dismissing reports that the entire system had collapsed.
The incident occurred at about 12:40 pm, according to a statement from the operator.
NISO said it worked with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to implement corrective measures and restore the system, and that restoration efforts had been completed.
“NISO, working with TCN, immediately implemented appropriate corrective measures to stabilise the power system and restore normal operations,” the statement said.
“Restoration efforts have been successfully completed, and the national grid has returned to normal operation.”

The operator said only a section of the grid was affected, contrary to unverified reports and claims circulating in the media.
“NISO wishes to clarify that the incident affected only a section of the grid, contrary to unverified reports and claims currently circulating in the media,” it said.
The agency urged the public to disregard what it called misleading information and to rely on its official channels for accurate and verified updates on the grid’s status.
“The public is therefore advised to disregard misleading information and rely on official NISO communication channels for accurate and verified updates on the status of the national grid,” the statement said.
NISO said it remains committed to maintaining grid stability and ensuring reliable operation of the national electricity transmission system.
