Senator Adams Oshiomhole has defended President Bola Tinubu’s decision to skip several All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rallies ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting the president must prioritise statecraft over politics.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, Oshiomhole dismissed criticisms surrounding Tinubu’s planned absences and his simultaneous spiritual activities in Mecca, maintaining that there is no contradiction between personal religious duties and executive governance.
“A president is not like a teacher who must be in the classroom,” Oshiomhole argued, emphasising that physical presence at every political venue is unnecessary for effective leadership.

The former Edo State governor asserted that the APC retains full authority over its campaign strategy and candidate deployments.

Addressing the presenter during a tense back-and-forth, Oshiomhole snapped, “It is our right; it’s our prerogative to decide where we go, where the President goes and where he doesn’t.”
He further criticised repeated questions about the issue, accusing political opponents and media hosts of manufacturing controversy.
His defence follows President Tinubu’s earlier announcement that party members must lead grassroots mobilisation so that electioneering does not distract him from governing the nation.
