French actor Gerard Depardieu is being investigated in France for serious tax fraud, according to an AFP source.

Depardieu, 76, who has already been accused of sexual assault and rape, is suspected of falsely claiming his tax domicile in Belgium, according to the source.

The source hinted that a tax investigation launched last month by financial crime prosecutors and now being conducted by police has included raids in France and Belgium, as well as police interviews.

Depardieu is the most visible celebrity to face allegations in French cinema’s version of the #MeToo movement.

A Paris judge postponed his sexual assault trial in October until March after his lawyer said the actor was too unwell to attend court. He has denied any wrongdoing.

Depardieu rose to prominence in France in the 1980s with roles in “The Last Metro,” “Police,” and “Cyrano de Bergerac,” before becoming a Hollywood celebrity with Peter Weir’s “Green Card.”

He later appeared in global projects such as Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, and Netflix’s Marseille series.
