Nigerian actor and filmmaker Stanley Amandi has been arrested over his alleged link to a failed coup plot against President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Amandi, a former chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, was arrested in Enugu alongside some serving military officers, according to security sources.
Family members initially believed he had been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).
However, the DSS later informed the family that Amandi is in the custody of the Defence Intelligence Agency.
Sources told Punch that the family has asked for access to him, including visits by his wife, lawyer, and doctor, as he is said to have high blood pressure.

According to Premium Times, Amandi “was hired to play the role of a propagandist” by the alleged coupists to help shape public narratives.
The alleged coup attempt first emerged months ago following quiet arrests within the military. Intelligence agencies later confirmed that some officers were planning to destabilise the country.
