The Spokesperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has dismissed reports suggesting that former Senate President David Mark, the party’s current National Chairman, has resigned from the position.
The report emerged days after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) removed Mark and other members of the party’s national working committee from the portal and announced it would cease to recognise his leadership following a court judgement on the party’s leadership.
“Fresh developments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) indicate that Senator David Mark has reportedly agreed to step aside as interim national chairman, paving the way for former party chairman Ralph Nwosu to take charge of the leadership process ahead of the party’s national convention,” the report read in part.

“The move comes amid the ongoing leadership dispute and growing pressure over the legality of the current structure following recent actions by INEC. Party insiders say the decision is aimed at stabilising the ADC and allowing the convention process to move forward under a familiar leadership figure.”

Abdullahi refuted the claim on Sunday in a post shared on X.
“Please note that reports circulating about a change in the leadership of the ADC are #FakeNews. Please disregard, flag, and report such content on any social media platform where you encounter it,” Abdullahi wrote.
The ADC has been facing a leadership tussle between factions: one led by Mark and another, a rival faction led by Nafiu Gombe, that claims to lead the party. A Court of Appeal judgment on the party’s leadership dispute said the party should maintain the status quo ante bellum, which means the situation as it was before the case began, while the matter continues in a lower court.
Despite the recent setbacks by INEC, the ADC insists it will proceed with its scheduled congresses.
