The African Democratic Congress (ADC) spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, has accused party member Nafiu Bala, who is claiming the party’s leadership, of living a lifestyle befitting a VIP since filing a lawsuit challenging the party’s leadership.
Abdullahi made the claim while speaking on News Central’s Breakfast Central on Tuesday.
“By the way, this guy was a deputy national chairman of the ADC in the Northeast. We know him very well. But since he has started this litigation, he has suddenly transformed into this VIP with a suite at the Transcorp Hilton, a retinue of security forces, and an armoured car following him, able to hire three Senior Advocates of Nigeria. Come on,” said Abdullahi.
The ADC spokesperson made this remark less than a week after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) removed the names of former Senator David Mark, alongside other members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), and discontinued the recognition of the Mark-led faction of the ADC.
Bala began challenging ADC’s leadership after the party’s former national chairman, Ralph Nwosu, swore in former Senate President David Mark as the party’s national chairman when opposition politicians adopted the party as a coalition in 2025.

Bala, who was the party’s deputy national chairman at the time, claims he became acting national chairman after the previous leadership resigned and insists he has not formally left his post as deputy chairman despite allegations of his resignation.
He has been accused of colluding with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to stoke an internal crisis within the ADC, allegedly to undermine the party’s chances of fielding a presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
According to Abdullahi, INEC’s move to discontinue the recognition of the Mark as the party’s national chairman is an attack on Nigeria’s democracy.
“We can continue to pretend that we don’t know what is going on, but it is there for everyone to see. And that is why I said this story about ADC is about a deliberate attack on Nigerian democracy. To arrive at 2027, there will be only one man on the ballot,” he added.
